In the fall of 1946, a stubborn, mud-caked Canadian moose failed to go down, despite a well placed shot from John Nosler’s 300 H&H. On the way home from that trip, John started thinking about a way to make a bullet that would perform well every time, no matter what the size of the game or the shot angle.
Over the next year, he experimented with bullet design, finally settling on a unique, dual core bullet that was really the first Partition®. The following fall, John and his friend, Clarence Purdie, both killed moose with one shot using John’s new bullet. In 1948 the Nosler Partition Bullet Company was formed.

After a few years of production on lathes, John developed the impact extrusion method of manufacture...

Although still a young company, Cooper Firearms of Montana, Inc. has firmly placed its mark in the history of American shooting sports by having set a standard of quality formerly reserved only to custom gunmakers. Beginning in 1990 a handful of former employees from Kimber of Oregon, with over 50 years in combined experience, set out to design and build the finest production rifles made in the United States. With the development of the Model 36 TRP-1 (Target Rifle Project-Phase 1), and then the Model 38 in 22CCM in a traditional sporting stock design, the Cooper reputation for craftsmanship and accuracy had begun.

In 1993, the team began experimenting with a single shot varmint rifle in .223 Rem. with an emphasis on accuracy...

Last fall, the Best of the West teamed up with Cooper Firearms of Montana and Colt Firearms on a buffalo hunt in South Dakota that showed off how impressive our Signature Series rifle system can be when paired with the knowledge and experience of our pro staffers!

Jim Sessions from Best of the West traveled in October to South Dakota’s capitol, Pierre, to participate in the annual Governor’s pheasant hunt. This event is put on by the State of South Dakota to raise awareness for gun manufacturers and other corporations of the benefits of basing their operations in that state...
